MOU Signing with The Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Tando Jam

The Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Tando Jam and Sindh Rural Support Organization (SRSO) on Monday 7th October 2019, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to “Increasing Productivity and Profitability of Pulse Production in Cereal based Cropping Systems in Pakistan”.
This project aims to identify agronomic factors limiting the productivity and profitability of lentils and chickpeas , evaluate possible solutions to Increased production and value addition in cereal cropping system, and to access to quality seed from better adapted varieties, helping to improve the ability of farmers to maintain and further improve their farming systems.
The Vice Chancellor SAU Prof. Dr. Mujeeb-u-ddin Memon emphasized the Natural Resource Management practices at gross root level in identification of the research priorities for knowledge based economy of the country that will ultimately be helpful for further conservation and in addressing the current challenges including climate change, food security, poverty and water security of the country.

 


4.5-years National Poverty Graduation Programme Launched Aimed at Assisting Ultra Poor.

In a partnership with Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund(PPAF), National Poverty Graduation Programme (NPGP) in Shikarpur and Kashmore-Kandhkot districts of Sindh province has been initiated. NPGP is financially supported by Government of Pakistan and The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
The objective of this programme is to assist the ultra-poor and very poor in graduating out of poverty on a sustainable basis and enable women and youth to realize their development potential; simultaneously improving their overall food security, nutritional status and resilience to climate change. Under the programme, BISP beneficiaries who are willing to start their own businesses will be provided with a one-time grant of Rs 50,000 to start their own business.

 


Community Conference under the Peoples' Poverty Reduction Programme organized in Sukkur

Sindh Rural Support Organization organized a Community Conference on July 11, 2019 at Mehran Cultural Complex Sukkur under the Peoples' Poverty Reduction Program.
The Conference was presided by Chief Minister of Sindh Mr. Murad Ali Shah and Chairman Peoples Party Mr. Bilawal Zardari . Ex Chief Minister of Sindh Mr. Qaim Ali Shah, MNAs Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah and Noman Islam Shaikh, PPP Sindh president Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, MNA Dr Nafeesa Shah, provincial minister Saeed Ghani, provincial adviser Murtaza Wahab, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, provincial minister Syed Awais Qadir Shah, Waqar Mehdi, Sukkur Mayor Arsalan Islam Shaikh and others accompanied the PPP chairman. A large number of women Community Leaders from Khairpur, Sukkur, Ghotki, Naushahro Feroze, Qambar-Shahdadkot, Shikar­pur, Jacobabad, Kandhkot-Kashmore and Larkana districts attended the conference.
Mr. Bilawal visited the stalls and exchanged views with stall holders. These stalls was setup by beneficiaries of different Projects and programmes implementing by SRSO with the financial support of Govt. of Sindh. Women Community Leaders shared their success stories during the community conference.
Mr. Bilawal distributed laptops among women office bearers of the Local Support Organizations and cheques under community investment fund.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said that the Peoples' Poverty Reduction Programme of SRSO would continue despite shortage of funds and limited resources. He said that they would spread the programme in all districts of Sindh and help women stand on their own feet.
The PPP Chairman Mr. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said the Peoples' Poverty Reduction Programme will be implemented to bring prosperity to the lives of poor families specially women. He said the Sindh Rural Support Organization (SRSO) is executing Peoples' Poverty Reduction programme which was appreciated by the European Union. He said the EU has decided to increase the funding of the project. Mr. Bilawal said the SRSO economically strengthened one million families and provided interest free loan to 180,000 women and established 50,000 houses besides providing them opportunities for skill development. He said the Sindh government in its budget allocated funds for empowerment of women.

 


Secretary Women Development Inaugurated Sartyoon Sang Crafts exhibition in Karachi

The three-day exhibition from 26 to 28 April 2019 was organised by the Sindh Rural Support Organisation (SRSO) at the Dolmen mall karachi with collaboration of Sindh Government and its partners displaying work of around 3,545 women artisans from the different districts of the province with aim to provide market linkages to rural women and artisans.
The Secretary Women Development Department Sindh Ms. Aliya Shahid anuagurated the exhibition and appreciated the endeavours of the SRSO for poor and destitute community and expecting in future to keep such spirit for rural communities of Sindh.
The EU Ambassador Jean-François Cautain along with his spouse Sonia Cautain visited the exhibition, took keen interest in handmade items and lauded the efforts of SRSO to empower the rural women. His excellency expressed the remarks that European Union has initiated several programmes with the support of the Sindh Government to eradicate poverty, which are being executed by the Sindh Rural Support Organisation (SRSO) and Rural Support Program Network (RSPN) in different districts of Sindh province.

 


Nishan-i-Imtiaz Bestowed upon Mr. Shoaib Sultan Khan (Chairman SRSO)

In an investiture ceremony to confer civil and military awards held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad on 23 March 2019 ,The President of Pakistan Mr. Arif Alvi conferred the Nishan-i-Imtiaz upon Chairman SRSO Mr. Shoaib Sultan Khan who is the 'father' of community mobilization, in recognition of his outstanding and selfless Public services in Pakistan and abroad. His unparalleled work and dedication to Pakistan has helped lift millions of people out of poverty.
The Nishan-i-Imtiaz is the highest honour given to any civilian in Pakistan based on their achievements towards world recognition for Pakistan or an outstanding service for the country.
Mr. Khan also honoured to achieve
Hilal-i-Imtiaz by the President of Pakistan in 2006 &
Sitara-e-Imtiaz by the President of Pakistan in 1990.

 



Managerial Activist Conference Organized in Khairpur


For the establishment of linkages between the local government and the community institutions, Sindh Rural Support Organization (SRSO) Khairpur office have organized a Managerial Activist Conference(MAC) under Govt. of Sindh funded "Peoples Poverty Reduction Program" (PPRP) at village Qadir Bux khaskheli in UC Fatehpur of taluka Kot Diji and district Khairpur on January 27, 2019. Rural women representatives of Community Institutions (COs, VOs and LSOs) from different villages of UC FatehPur participated in the conference. 
Mr. Munwar Wassan Member of the provincial Assembly of Sindh was the chief guest. Other key stakeholders were also invited including notables, government officials, elected representatives of local government ,media representatives and SRSO official to inform them about the community level initiatives. This interaction between community institutions and local government is a platform towards the linkages development between the two entities.
Mr. Munawar Wassan appreciated the efforts of SRSO under Peoples' Poverty Reduction Programme and assured to extend full support for community institutions.
He also inaugurated the 11 Low Cost Houses in the village Qadir Bux khaskheli and distributed the cheques of Community Investment Fund(CIF) and Low Cost Houses among beneficiaries.

 



Managerial Activist Conference held in Umerkot


An interactive Community based Managerial Activist Conference was organized by the Team of district Umerkot , to create liaisons in between Government line Departments and community organizations. More than 500 females members of COs/ VOs/ LSO including Community Activists and CRPs and 150 male community members also attended the Conference held on January 26, 2019 in the village Sabri and Union Council Faqeer Abdullah of district Umerkot. SRSO is providing opportunity to rural women and social activists to create linkages with local government authorities and elected representatives so that they are also informed about the community level initiatives, and are aware of their needs and plans. This will help establish a link between the local government and Community Institutions. This Conference was presided by Nawab Muhammad Yousaf Talpur (Member National Assembly). Mr Haq Nawaz Shar (ADC-1 District Umerkot), Mr Muhammad Baqa Palli (Vice Chairman- District Council Umerkot), Mr Nawab Muhammad Younas Talpur (Member District Council Umerkot), Local Government representatives including members of district and Union councils of Umerkot, representatives of civil society organizations , population welfare department, notables, electronic and print media and SRSO officials participated in Managerial Activist Conference.
Representatives of COs/VOs/LSOs shared their experiences and success Stories under the interventions of Peoples' Poverty Reduction Program.
Mr. Muhammad Yousuf Talpur appreciated the SRSO and Govt of Sindh interventions under the Peoples Poverty Reduction Programme (PPRP) implemented by the SRSO in the Six districts of Sindh and assured to extend full support from their offices for community institutions. The Activist Conference was organized under the Govt. of Sindh funded Peoples' Poverty Reduction Programme.

 



Managerial Activist Conference held in Mirpurkhas


To empower women by providing them with a livelihood, Sewing Machines were distributed among 21 graduates of Tailoring Training. The event was organized in union council Phuladiyoon of taluka Sindhri and district Mirpurkhas. Mr. Lachhman Das Malhi (UC-Chairman of Phuladiyoon ) was the chief guest for the occasion and Mr. Madhu Mal (Social activist), Mr. Asad Shar (President of Press Club) and community members were also present.
These 21 women are provided Tailoring training by the SRSO under the project "People's Poverty Reduction Programme" with the financial support of Govt. of Sindh with an aims to empower, restore and regenerate the status of women and their families through skills enhancement.

 



The Three-day "6th Sartyoon Sang Crafts Exhibition 2019" concluded at Ocean Mall Clifton, Karachi.

The three-day Sartyoon Sang Crafts Exhibition was organised by the Sindh Rural Support Organisation (SRSO) in collaboration with the Sindh Government and its partners displaying work of around 3,545 women artisans from the different districts of Sindh and aims to provide them with market linkages.
Sindh chief minister, Murad Ali Shah inaugurated the exhibition on Friday 04 January 2019 in Ocean mall Karachi.The chief Minister appreciated the endeavour of Sindh Rural Support Organizations for poor and destitute community and expecting in future to keep such spirit for rural communities of Sindh.Appreciating the exhibition, CM sindh said arranging such an activity to promote artisans, handicrafts and Sindh’s culture was a great effort being made by the SRSO also.He further said that artisans dedicate their entire lives to preparing masterpieces, but their work is never appreciated in urban centers, such as Karachi, “However, these activities will certainly bring the handicrafts of Sindh in the limelight, said Murad Ali Shah.
All three-days (4, 5 and 6 January 2019) of the exhibition received an overwhelming response from local and international visitors. As many as 15 stalls were set up in the mall's main foyer that exhibit garments, Ajrak, furniture, decoration pieces, leather handbags, bed sheets and other traditional items.
These colorful and captivating products was produced by thousands of rural women from different remote villages of Kashmore-Kandhkot, Shikarpur, Larkana, Qambar-Shahdadkot Jacobabad, Khairpur, Sukkur and other districts of Sindh. Visitors took keen interest in handmade household goods and other traditional products. The event also featured traditional folk dances.

The Craft Exhibition is being organised by SRSO for the sixth year in consecutive with the motive to support ethical fashion and to promote crafts of some of the most marginalised women in the province. Sartyoon Sang Crafts is the social enterprise of Sindh Rural Support Organziation established with the vision to provide a market linkage to the disadvantaged artisans especially rural women by promoting their skills and crafts initially at regional level and then gradually at national and international level.
