Installation of Water Filtration Plants – Government of Sindh – Copy

Installation of Water Filtration Plants – Government of Sindh Donor: Planning & Development Department, Government of Sindh Duration: 1st September – 30 November 2010 Districts: (Sukkur), (Khairrpur), (Jacobabad), (Qamber Shahdadkot), (Kashmore-Kandhkot). Major Activities: SRSO with the support of GoS installed 40 filteration plants (Reverse Osmosis) with a capacity of 5,000 gallons of water per day. These plants have been installed where quality of water has been reported to be unhygienic and badly contaminated and an effort has been made to make the safe water available to flood affected community.The filtered water was stored in a fibreglass tank provided along with the filtration plant. Once the water would accumulate in the tank, beneficiaries could collect water using portable coolers, jerry cans, bottles or buckets.Project implemented in district Sukkur, Khairpur, Jacobabad Qamber Shahdadkot and Kashmore-Kandhkot.Along with proving communities with filtration plant, community‘s capacity to handle and maintain the unit was also developed, through training session for selected community members.A distribution mechanism of water within the community was also proposed. This mechanism ensured that the unit benefited the maximum number of beneficiaries in the most efficient manner.The filtration plants, benefited 28,570 families or 199,990 individuals in 40 locations. Women’s Socio-Economic Resilience in Pakistan (WSERP) Project

Women’s Socio-Economic Resilience in Pakistan (WSERP) Project Donor/s:  UN-Women Partner/s: Rural Support Program Network (RSPN) Duration: 05 Months (April to August 2024) Target Group/s:  Women, Adolescent Girls and Men Covering Districts:  (Sukkur), and (Khairpur) Project Objective/s: To establish and strengthen a multi-purpose women’s community center for creating safe spaces for the community women where information, recreation, protection, and economic activities are performed. The Women Community Centers shall be treated as a hub for uniting women and creating/accessing demand for essential services such as training on gender-based violence, mental health, psychosocial support, the concept of gender, discrimination based on gender, child marriages, case management, and civic documentation. Therefore, 30 women’s community centers were established, 10 in each district. The centers are the places where the women are united, organized, and trained on different gender issues and imparted awareness about their rights enshrined in laws and policies. Major Activities:  Awareness-raising sessions on GBV, Domestic Violence, the importance of civic documentation, sessions on mental health and psycho-social services, Menstrual Hygiene; and making sanitary pads and soap making. Community Engagement for the Promotion of Reproductive Health Rights (RHR) of Youth and Improving their Access to Reproductive Health (RH) Services under the Sihatmand Khaandaan Project Donor/s: The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Partner/s:  Rural Support Program Network (RSPN) and Ahung Target Groups:  Rural youth and adolescents Covering District/s: (Kamber-Shahdadkot) Duration:   July 2022 to June 2024 Project Objective/s: The overall objective is to contribute to UNFPA’s effort to Support policy initiatives and advocacy for increased investment in marginalized young people, including access to Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR). Major Activities Community Engagement for the Promotion of Reproductive Health Rights (RHR) of Youth and Improve their Access to Reproductive Health (RH) Services under Sihat Mand Khaandaan Project is a UNFPA funded six months project implemented by the Rural Support Program Network (RSPN) through the Sindh Rural Support Organization (SRSO) in Kamber-Shahdadkot. By engaging community institutions (LSOs/VOs), RSPN through SRSO, will achieve the objective by creating an enabling environment at the Community level for the promotion of reproductive rights and the health of youth, and ensuring youth are better informed about their reproductive health rights and have improved access to reproductive health services. The project entails the following key activities and targets. Engagement of community institutions (LSOs/VOs) through dialogues, orientation, and monthly meetings to create awareness of RHR issues and the rights of youth, and seek community support. Youth Champions will be Identified and selected through VO dialogues, these Youth champions (50% girls) will be trained on the RHR toolkit and further conduct awareness sessions with registered adolescents of their assigned population. Youth champions will be integrated into LSOs/VOs as Youth sub-committees; they will regularly participate in routine meetings of VOs and LSOs share RH issues being faced by youth and seek support of VO and LSO members to address these issues. Adolescent and youth-friendly spaces (AYSF) will be established and used to promote RHR by engaging community youth adolescents, and parents, and also organize health camps for the delivery of RH services for adolescents/youth. Dialogues will be held at the district and provincial level with concerned government stakeholders for policy recommendations where youth will share issues being faced by them and their peers in the community for accessing RH services, and also discuss how community leaders are taking action to address them in rural areas. UNICEF – Child Protection Project

UNICEF – Child Protection Project Donor: UNICEF Duration: September 2010 – February 2011 Districts: (Sukkur), (Shikarpur), (Kashmore)(SRSO) and (Jamshoro) (TRDP). Major Activities: SRSO and TRDP with the support of UNICEF started a child protection program in Sukkur, Shikarpur, Kashmore (SRSO), and Jamshoro (TRDP) districts of Sindh.The objective of the project is to save the flood-affected children from the trauma and hardships caused due to displacements during floods and protect them from abuse, child labor, ignorance, and exploitation.The philosophy of the project is to make interventions in entertainment, education, and provision of basic needs focus on safety and security and keep them engaged in recreational and constructive activities.The four major areas of intervention were: strengthening existing child protection mechanisms; ensuring all children are in adequate care arrangements; enabling communities to identify child and women concerns and take appropriate measures; and providing safe, free and confidential psychosocial support. The activities of the project include the establishment of Child Facilitation Spaces, organizing child protection committees to address the social issues and incidents occurring due to the disastrous situation, and creating awareness among the community to protect and nourish the children for a healthy future.The project also included the distribution of food and non-food items like Lanterns, Torches, Battery Cells, Buckets, Cooking pots, Shoes, Empty bags, Parachute bags, Shawls, Recreational kits, mattresses, and bed sheets, and for the winter season, the distribution was made of sweaters, blankets, clothes, socks, and boots all included, among registered children, women, and families. Emergency Relief Assistance to Flood Affected People

Emergency Relief Assistance to Flood Affected People Donor:  Donors and Philanthropists Major Activities: Yusra Askari: who led a private initiative to help gather funds to build 23 safe and comfortable one-room shelters for the flood-affected in the village of Shaukat Ali Jarwar, tehsil Shahdad Kot, district Qambar Shahdad Kot The International Organization for Migration (IOM) provided Rs 12.75 million on 11 February 2011 to SRSO to construct 500 one-room shelters, benefiting 500 families or 3,500 individuals, in union council Joungal, district Jacobabad. SRSO and People’s Primary Healthcare Initiative (PPHI) provided a mobile medical facility for the flood-affected to provide medical services to the sick, injured, and snake-bitten and preventive vaccination for different viral, bacterial, and other diseases. SRSO & The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria (GFATM) worked on Malaria prevention last year in District Khairpur, and after the flood, it provided 1,750 mosquito nets to the flood-affected people, and priority was given to families with children younger than 10 years and pregnant women. SRSO, with the support of the Pakistan Software Industry, distributed 1,007 utensils, 1,733 stitched dress shoes 1, 152, and two pedestal fans in relief camps in the Khairpur district. “The WATAN” Organization supported flood affected by donating Rs. 8.00 million which was used to distribute the following NFI items: Buckets & mugs, Detergent soaps, Toilet soap, Towels & C. Roll, Cooking pots, Tea pots, Flour Mixing pots, wooden spoon, Plates, Steel glasses, Clothes (1000 male 500 female). OMV Pakistan joined hands with SRSO to help out the flood-affected people in Khairpur and Sukkur. Through this partnership, SRSO provided food to 2,000 families which covers around 14,000 people. OMV also provided 60 tents (shelters) for 500 people. Furthermore, the organization has established an employee-contributed fund for flood-affected affected, and an amount of Rs. 700,000 was spent on special feeding requirements for the children of the affected families. SRSO distributed wheelchairs and white sticks to the 11 disabled flood affected of District Khairpur with the support of Sindh Disability Forum. Provided health support to 754 patients through the UCBPRP Sehat Salamat Package, the Government of Sindh, and SRSO’s pool account. Distributed Food and Non-food items to more than 400 flood-affected families in Sukkur donated by Al Huda Welfare Centre, Germany.   SRSO through its senior female staff had run a “the clean camp campaign” in camps of Sukkur city accommodating 546 IDPs where cleaning materials including Finis, spray pumps, nail cutters, and combs were provided, and hygiene sessions were conducted to make the camp environment conducive and free of diseases. SRSO distributed 10,000 stitched clothes to the flood-affected families in Khairpur, Sukkur, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Jacobabad, and Larkana districts. These clothes were stitched by the community members trained in the vocational centers established under the GoS Union Council-Based Poverty Reduction Program. Back

SITCO – Survey of Traditional Crafts Persons (CERF)

SITCO – Survey of Traditional Crafts Persons (CERF) Donor: Sindh Indigenous and Traditional Craft Company (SITCO) Districts: (Jacobabad), (Ghotki), (Shikarpur), (Sukkur) and (Khairpur). Duration: 6 September – 6 November 2010 Major Activities: SRSO signed an MoU with SITCO for the Identification and Survey of Traditional Crafts persons in the Camps, whose livelihoods and crafts had been affected by the floods.A total of 1,150 traditional crafts persons were identified in 50 camps across the districts of Jacobabad, Ghotki, Shikarpur, Sukkur, and Khairpur, and were provided financial and social assistance by SITCO in enhancing their skill and providing them with incentive-based work orders.A total of 50 master trainers (one in each camp) were selected, they underwent intensive training to monitor the progress of the group and assist the group in skill development. Under the project each craftsperson was given an order to make a specific product, they were supplied with quality raw materials, according to their skills, and these products were then displayed at an exhibition in Karachi. Disaster Emergency Committee (CERF)

Disaster Emergency Committee (CERF) Donor: HelpAge International Districts: (Shikarpur) and (Jacobabad). Duration: 23 September 2010 – 23 January 2011 Major Activities: SRSO with the support of Helpage International has been working for old age people mainly affected in the flood and who need care and health facilities. The target beneficiaries of the project are old people, particularly women in Jacobabad and Shikarpur districts.SRSO assessed and registered 1,540 older people in Jacobabad and 595 people in Shikarpur. The relief support included nutrition kits, personal kits, reading glasses where needed, Hygiene Kits, Mobility Aids (Hearing Aids, Crutches, Toilet Seats Walking Sticks, Wheel Chairs).Cash grants of Rs 15,000 each to 315 beneficiaries along with 2000 winterization kits.Provided Mosquito Nets and 600 Mospel repellents.The project also set up 6 eye camps in the two districts, which treated a total of 928 patients for various eye related issues Back

FAO – Central Emergency Rehabilitation Fund (CERF)

FAO – Central Emergency Rehabilitation Fund (CERF) Donor: Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Districts: (Sukkur) Duration: November 2010 – February 2011 Major Activities: SRSO, with the support of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, has launched CERF: a project aimed at providing emergency assistance for the immediate protection of livelihood and food security through the provision of critical livestock and agricultural inputs to the flood-affected community for two union councils of Tehsil Pano Aqil, District Sukkur.We Supported selected Farmers for Livestock, Agriculture, and Food by providing 3,000 beneficiary households or 21,000 beneficiaries with an agricultural assistance package that included. Agri Package: Wheat Seed, DAP, UREA, Vegetable Kit; andLivestock Package: Animal Feed, De-Wormers, Plastic Sheet, Rope. Once beneficiaries were selected, they were given a one-day training session on better management practices for wheat production, pest control, irrigation, pre and post-harvest losses, vegetable sowing methodology, how to construct animal shelters using plastic sheets and rope, management practices to increase the productivity of milk and meat, proper usage of fodder, management of different diseases using de-worming and vaccination of animals. Following the training, inputs were distributed to beneficiaries. Back

UNICEF – Flood Response Mother and Child Health ( MCH )

UNICEF – Flood Response Mother and Child Health ( MCH ) Donor: United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Duration: October 2010 – January 2011 Districts: (Shikarpur), (Larkana), (Shahdadkot), (Ghotki). Major Activities: UNICEF provided SRSO with Rs 9.41 million to organize communities in Shikarpur, Larkana, Shahdadkot & Ghotki districts.Mother & Child Health care is to organize communities in the non-LHW covered areas and to conduct focused awareness campaigns on pneumonia and diarrhea, strengthen catch-up of routine immunization and tetanus shots.)The setting up of 4 Social Mobilisation Teams (SMT) comprising one female mobilizer and one male mobilizer, who worked with communities and Community Resource Persons (CRP) in the villages with no LHWs presence. The scope of work of the social mobilizer included: identification of target villages; identification of CRPs in each village; orientation and training of the CRPs on their assigned role and responsibilities, and on how to conduct health sessions with the communities; managing the CRPs; coordinating with health respective in the area; assessing the need for items such as de-worming tablets and tetanus vaccinations in their area; and most importantly, sensitising community members regarding the importance of health interventions with women and children. 1,218 CRPs were brought onboard during the course of the project to carry out activities in the following areas: strengthen routine immunisation and mobilised communities for immunisation activities, particularly polio; facilitate the provision of tetanus vaccination and clean delivery kits; antenatal and postnatal care and community Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF)227,338 men and women community members were sensitised by the trained CRPs with the help of counselling cards on reducing maternal and child mortality.
