Major Activities:

  • The government of Pakistan launched the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) as one of the main social safety net programmes in 2009. The main objective of the programme is to support the poor and vulnerable against the negative effects of food crisis and inflation. The government in its pilot phase adopted a “Targeting Process” through the Poverty Score Card Roll-out survey. Based on the successful completion and learning of the test phase in 2009, the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has launched the “National Poverty Targeting Survey”.
  • The poverty scorecard survey consists of 13 questionnaires which are weighted for their answers and 16.17 is the weighted total used by the BISP as a cut-off score with this BISP uses a scientific instrument for covering every household to target the poorest household.
  • In this regard, RSPN on behalf of RSPs formed a partnership with BISP for surveying in three provinces of Pakistan. RSPs are one of the key stakeholders in poverty alleviation in Pakistan. Poverty targeting is in line with RSP objectives.
  • Through the RSPN partnership, the SRSO was to survey the targeted Cluster-C Sindh, which includes (sub-cluster Karachi and sub-cluster Sukkur), in districts Naushehro-Feroze, Khairpur, Sukkur, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Kashmore-Kandhkot, Shahdadkot, Larkana and Karachi.
  • A total of 3,618,712 (103%) households and 9,868,132 (102%) population have been surveyed by SRSO
