Major Activities

 

SRSO and TRDP with the support of UNICEF started a child protection programme in Sukkur, Shikarpur, Kashmore (SRSO) and Jamshoro (TRDP) districts of Sindh.
The objective of the project is to save the flood affected children from the trauma and hardships caused due to displacements during floods and protect them from abuse, child labor, ignorance and exploitation.
The philosophy of the project is to make intervention of entertainment, education and provision of basic needs and focus on the safety and security and keep them engaged in recreational and constructive activities.
The four major areas of intervention were:

  • strengthening existing child protection mechanisms;
  • ensuring all children are in adequate care arrangements;
  • enabling communities to identify child and women concerns and take appropriate measures;
  • and providing safe, free and confidential psychosocial support.
The activities of the project include establishment of Child Facilitation Spaces, organizing child protection committees to address the social issues and incidents occurring due to the disastrous situation and creating awareness among the community to protect and nourish the children for a healthy future.
The project also included distribution of food and non food items like Lanterns, Torches, Battery Cells, Buckets, Cooking pots, Shoes, Empty bags, Parachute bags, Shawls, Recreational kits, mattress, and bed sheets and for the winter season the distribution were made of sweaters, blankets, clothes, socks, and boots all included, among registered children, women and families.
