Major Activities

 

  • Government of Pakistan launched Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) as one of the main social safety net programmes in 2009. The main objective of the programme is to support poor and vulnerable against the negative effect of food crisis and inflation. The government in its pilot phase adopted a "Targeting Process" through Poverty Score Card Roll-out survey. Based on successful completion and learning of the test phase in 2009, the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has launched the "National Poverty Targeting Survey".
  • Poverty score card survey consisting of 13 questioner which are weighted for their answers and 16.17 is the weighted total used by the BISP as a cut off score and with this BISP use a scientific instrument for covering every household for targeting the poorest household.
  • In this regard RSPN on behalf of RSPs formed partnership with BISP for carrying out survey in three province of Pakistan. RSPs are one of the key stakeholders for poverty alleviation in Pakistan. Poverty targeting is in line with RSPs objectives.
  • Through RSPN partnership, the SRSO was to survey the targeted Cluster-C Sindh, which includes (sub-cluster Karachi and sub-cluster Sukkur), in district Naushehro-Feroze, Khairpur, Sukkur, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Kashmore-Kandhkot, Shahdadkot, Larkana and Karachi.
  • A total of 3,618,712 (103%) households and 9,868,132 (102%) population have been surveyed by SRSO.
